The university’s accessibility office is called Student Accessibility Services (SAS). SAS works with students with disabilities to ensure they have equal opportunities for academic success. SAS operates under the Ontario Human Rights Code and will help students arrange academic accommodations to support their studies.
Student Accessibility Services invites incoming students with documented disabilities to participate in their summer transition program. Students who have previously participated in these workshops feel better prepared and are more successful in the first few months of university.
In addition to providing an opportunity to meet other new students, this program will help you to understand the real differences between high school and university, learn about self-advocacy and how to use your strengths, and interact with key staff who can provide academic and learning support.

The university’s Campus Health and Wellness Centre (CHWC) is committed to the delivery of high-quality health-care services that promote student health in a professional and confidential manner. Maintaining optimal health—both mental and physical—will help students be more successful in meeting their educational objectives. Student Mental Health Services provides support and assistance for students experiencing academic challenges caused by personal, physical or emotional difficulties by offering a range of short-term counselling and therapy services to students using a Stepped Care model. Students in crisis will also be provided support and counselling as needed through appropriate referrals to the community.
The Student Learning Centre (SLC) helps students strengthen their academic skills and build a foundation for future success. SLC offers a variety of programs and services to assist student in their studies. Students have access to peer-tutoring, peer-assisted study sessions, workshops and can book appointments with academic specialists. Students can also utilize nool, an online resource for writing, math, science and study skills. MyStart is a summer academic transition program that can help students get a head start in their university career.
The Campus Library offers a variety of e-resources, research guides, subject librarians and other educational services. Appointments with subject librarians are available by phone or email.
The university has academic advisors in each faculty that are committed to helping students make choices that will lead to academic success. Advisors support students throughout their educational journey, from selecting a program to planning for the future.

Ontario Tech University offers on-campus accommodations to students. Residence is guaranteed for all first year students provided they complete the necessary application by the deadline. All residence rooms come furnished and include high speed internet access and local telephone service; residence rates vary based on the style of room.
Meal plans are mandatory in South Village residence but optional for Simcoe residence. Plans operate on a set number of meals and a credit account that lasts throughout the year.
The University offers several barrier-free rooms. Students requiring special accommodations are required to complete the “request for special consideration” form on their residence application.

Durham Region Transit (DRT) The University offers a U-Pass (Universal Transit Pass), included in student tuition, providing unlimited access to Durham Region Transit (DRT). Schedules are provided for DRT buses. Transit maps are offered for each of the DRT different regions.

DRT also offers the support person card which allows users of both the conventional and specialized transit system who require a support person to have this person travel with them at no additional cost. Persons who require a support person must complete the application form. DRT also offers Specialized Services which provides door-to-door transit services.
